Thanks Michael, what an excellent article. I’ve started using Gatsby for a new website, and now have a grand visions of integrating our sphinx docs in there too.

I maintain sphinx-charts (currently early stage – cool but has a few hacks and flaws). Maybe I’ll look into adding an fjson target (should be a completely trivial no-op!) for this use case; choosing when to render charts into the page could solve a number of performance issues :)
