Unfortunately ‘the great equalizer’ isn’t. The requirement for a constantly stable internet connection is a huge kick to developers in most of the world, where internet coverage is either patchy, or wildly expensive, or (usually) both.

So it’s an equalizer unless you live in most of Africa, much of Asia, much of South America, Eastern Europe, Russia or anywhere remote/cheap to live in Europe or North America.

Don’t get me wrong, I signed up for the codespaces beta and it looks great. But please don’t pretend its some humanitarian magic bullet. Its an excellent product and a savvy business move.

And for reference, I run development for a deep tech startup on a 2015 macbook of value approx £300. Spending thousands on a flash laptop makes things a little quicker, but is not necessary.
