Yes. THIS! I don’t understand why so many people sort by colour, it’s a terrible idea, basically camouflaging what you’re looking for.

I do it by type too, but don’t use plastic trays - I put things in ziplock plastic bags which I have in two sizes.

These work out much cheaper than trays, and have the benefit that you can then pack them all away as densely as possible (you don’t have the air space of half empty drawers) and it’s trivial to rearrange them around you while building.
